Fashion Month barely ends before Hollywood’s biggest dress-up night begins. The Academy Museum Gala arrives right after the runway shows wrap, which means guests often turn up in looks that were on the catwalk only days earlier. It is also where Oscar hopefuls and style darlings get their first awards-season spotlight.

This year’s edition took place on Saturday, October 17, at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. Charlize Theron received the Icon Award, John Carpenter took the Luminary Award and Colman Domingo accepted the Vantage Award, while Taylor Swift performed and the evening raised more than $14 million. The carpet was packed with names from Sabrina Carpenter to Kim Kardashian.

Zoey Deutch was among the guests who made the most of it. The ‘Voicemails for Isabelle’ star’s Academy Museum Gala look was a crisp white Prada gown covered in three-dimensional floral embellishments, and portraits of the dress have been popping up everywhere. With long sleeves up front and an open back, it struck a balance between demure and daring.

The gown’s silhouette was deliberately simple. It was a floor-length, long-sleeve column dress with a clean white base, which let the craftsmanship take center stage. Scattered across the fabric were petal-like appliqués in yellow, silver and smoky grey, giving the dress a playful, almost garden-like texture.

The sequin embroidery added dimension without weighing the look down. As one fashion outlet put it, the simple silhouette lets the detail do the talking, and the three-dimensional florals were charming. Deutch finished the outfit with Prada white gold snake pavé and diamond rings.

Her hair added to the effect. She wore it in soft, wavy lengths that fell just past her shoulders, with golden ends that echoed the yellow in the dress. The styling stayed relaxed, which kept the look from feeling overly formal.

The look also continued a pattern. Deutch has been a regular in Prada’s embellished dresses, and she picked another one for the gala. It was one of 7 Prada looks worn by celebrities at the event, a group that included Hunter Schafer, Gemma Chan, Maya Hawke, Amanda Seyfried, Rosalind Eleazar and Dwyane Wade.

Fashion writers singled her out. The Zoe Report called her textured Prada dress a standout, and one critic listed it among the favorites of the Prada contingent. Among the black velvet and navy pleats elsewhere on the carpet, the bright white base and golden petals stood out.

Deutch has plenty to celebrate. Her Netflix rom-com ‘Voicemails for Isabelle’ premiered on June 19, with Deutch playing Jill, a woman grieving her younger sister who leaves voicemails on her sister’s old number, which now belongs to Nick Robinson’s Wes. Leah McKendrick wrote and directed the film, and critics have rated it highly on Rotten Tomatoes.

It followed her turn as Jean Seberg in Richard Linklater’s ‘Nouvelle Vague’ in 2025, which was her second Netflix film that year after earlier hits like ‘Set It Up.’ She also lends her voice to ‘Minions & Monsters,’ which grossed $524 million worldwide and is set to begin streaming exclusively on Peacock on October 28. Her next project is the Netflix sports biopic ‘The 99’ers,’ in which she plays Marla Messing.

That mix of rom-coms, auteur films and animated hits explains why the carpet moment matters. Deutch has built a reputation for eclectic choices on screen, and she seems to be doing the same with fashion. The petal gown felt playful and polished, which matches the tone of her recent roles.

It also shows how much the Academy Museum Gala has become a style event in its own right. Looks like this one preview the trends that tend to carry through the awards circuit, from embellishment to texture to open backs. In that sense, Deutch was ahead of the curve.
