“Wednesday” returned to Netflix in September with the release of Season 2, Part 2. The final four episodes drew 28.2 million views in their first five days, a sharp drop from Part 1, which reached 50 million views in the same period.

This marks a 43.6% decrease in viewership.

Despite the decline in audience numbers, critics have responded positively to the season. Rotten Tomatoes gave Season 2 an 84% approval rating based on 89 reviews.

The site’s consensus reads, “Wednesday’s second season smartly opens up to include more of the whole Addams clan, backing up Jenna Ortega’s lovably heartless teenager with an ookier and spookier ensemble.” On Metacritic, the series has a score of 65 out of 100 from 29 critics, indicating “generally favorable” reviews.

Lili Loofbourow of The Washington Post offered a mixed critique. She said, “Wednesday’s second season is tonally darker than its predecessors, and that sometimes feels like a drag on the show, especially when it veers away from the silly high school antics.”

“The spin-off suffers from some of the same conceptual instability that plagued the original films, but the latter, being comedies, managed their contradictions with hand-wavy humor.”

While viewership has fallen, the season has been praised for expanding the story beyond Wednesday Addams herself and exploring more of the Addams family world. Fans have noted that the darker tone sets it apart from the previous season, even if some parts of the plot feel uneven.

The drop in viewers does not mean the show has lost its appeal. Season 2 takes creative risks and explores new angles of the Addams family story. Those who continue watching may find a richer and more complex series.
