Jessica Chastain is about to double the dread, and ‘Other Mommy’ arrives in theaters on Friday, October 9. Rob Savage directs from a script by Nathan Elston, adapted from Josh Malerman’s book ‘Incidents Around the House’. The buzz around it has been building for months.

Once the credits roll, plenty of horror fans will want to know when they can watch it again from the safety of their couch. The film is a theatrical exclusive at launch and isn’t available on any digital platform yet. That leaves a lot of room for educated guesses.

‘Other Mommy’ Release Date and Theatrical Run

The horror film was originally dated for May 8, 2026, before landing on its current October slot. That shift gave Universal a prime spooky season window, and the studio appears to be leaning into it.

The MPA rated it R for some bloody violence and language, which surprised some fans since many Blumhouse and Atomic Monster projects stick to PG-13. James Wan is producing alongside those two companies. For horror viewers, that rating is a promising sign.

The cast is stacked as well. Chastain plays two roles, the mother Ursula and her eerie lookalike, while Jay Duplass plays Russ and Arabella Olivia Clark plays young Bela. Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed and Karen Allen round out the ensemble.

When Could ‘Other Mommy’ Hit Streaming?

Right now, nobody can say for certain. TV Insider notes it’s too early for streaming dates, since that information typically arrives after a movie is already in theaters. FandomWire likewise reports that no streaming date or platform has been confirmed.

Still, the industry has a rough rhythm. Some movies become available to stream about 120 days after their theatrical release. Count four months from the October opening and you land in the first weeks of February.

One outlet pegs a Peacock premiere no later than early February, roughly four months after opening day. That lines up neatly with the general window, though it is still a projection and not an announcement.

‘Other Mommy’ Predictions for Peacock and Netflix

The prediction game gets more specific from here. Epicstream suggests a premium rental release on Amazon Prime Video around November, followed by Peacock in early 2027, since Universal Pictures is the distributor. That is one theory, and it clearly treats the dates as speculative.

CableTV expects the film to reach premium video on demand within a month or two of its run, then move to Peacock for about four months, with a Netflix stay beginning around June 2027. That second stop is the interesting part for subscribers who skip Peacock.

Under the Universal and Netflix arrangement tied to the studio’s current slate, the film could stay on Netflix for roughly ten months before rights return to Peacock. If that holds, patient viewers have two shots at catching it at home. Nothing has been officially announced though, so every one of these dates should be treated as a smart guess.

‘Other Mommy’ Gossip and Fan Buzz

Part of the hype comes from a well timed scare. Moviegoers who saw the trailer before ‘The Odyssey’ in theaters have been talking about its jump scare. A single trailer moment turning into water cooler chatter is every horror marketer’s dream.

The official trailer has since done serious numbers online. It dropped July 21 and had passed twelve million YouTube views according to FlixPatrol. Its like to dislike ratio is overwhelmingly positive, which hints at genuine anticipation.

The footage itself is nightmare fuel. It shows eight year old Bela bonding with a woman who looks exactly like her mother, who then cooks for her and crawls under the kitchen table with a twisted body. The filmmaker has confirmed the lookalike is not just a figment of Bela’s imagination, which only deepens the question of what is really lurking in that house.

So the real debate is whether this one will earn a spot on the Peacock queue or hold out for Netflix, and whether Chastain’s twisted dual performance will make you check your own closet when the lights go out. If you’ve already watched it in theaters, tell us whether the ‘Other Mommy’ scare was worth sitting through twice at home.
