Who’s Leading the X-Men in the Upcoming Phase? New MCU Rumors Point to Possible Team Heads
Marvel Studios is already looking ahead to the future of the MCU, and the next phase will introduce the X-Men to the cinematic universe.
In July of this year, Kevin Feige revealed that the studio is deep into development for Phases Seven, Eight, and Nine, which will follow the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga with Secret Wars. He also confirmed that Phase Seven will be shaped by the events of Phase Six.
Feige teased that Secret Wars will pave the way for a “new age of mutants” in the MCU. Some familiar faces from previous X-Men films are expected to return, including Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and James Marsden as Cyclops. Patrick Stewart and Kelsey Grammer are also reprising their roles. Feige is reportedly planning a 10-year roadmap for the X-Men in the MCU.
A big question among fans is who will lead the new team. Industry insider Alex Perez recently shared that Cyclops and Jean Grey are likely to serve as co-leaders. Perez also mentioned that other familiar X-Men characters such as Angel, Beast, Gambit, Rogue, and Nightcrawler could join the team.
Earlier reports hinted that the MCU might introduce X-Men characters who haven’t yet appeared on the big screen. Michael Lesslie, who is currently working on the X-Men reboot, reportedly pitched a version of the team inspired by the X-Men ’97 animated series.
