‘Wicked: For Good’ Beats ‘Superman’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ in Huge Pre-Release Record
Universal Pictures seems to have another major hit on its hands. The studio’s upcoming musical Wicked: For Good, directed by Jon M. Chu, is already setting records before it even hits theaters. According to Fandango, the film has become 2025’s top first-day ticket pre-seller, beating out titles like Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle, Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, and Superman. The movie is scheduled to open on November 21.
Early numbers show that Wicked: For Good has climbed into Fandango’s list of the ten biggest first-day ticket pre-sellers of all time.
That puts it in the same league as some of Hollywood’s biggest franchises, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour.

The movie also broke a separate record as the best-performing PG-rated film in first-day sales history on the platform, overtaking family favorites like Frozen and The Lion King.
This success follows the first Wicked film, which opened last year just before Thanksgiving and became one of the highest-grossing movie musicals ever. It earned more than $112 million during its first weekend and went on to collect over $756 million worldwide.
The film also won two Academy Awards, for Costume Design and Production Design, and received ten nominations, including Best Picture and one for Ariana Grande as Best Supporting Actress.
The Wicked movies are based on the Broadway musical written by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, itself inspired by Gregory Maguire’s novel that reimagines the world of The Wizard of Oz. Produced by Marc Platt, the story explores the untold friendship between Elphaba and Glinda before they became the Wicked Witch and the Good Witch.
Fandango’s Executive Vice President, Jerramy Hainline, said excitement for the sequel has been tremendous. “With last year’s Wicked breaking records and captivating audiences around the world, it is no surprise that fans are racing to get their tickets to Wicked: For Good,” he said.
“The first film became a true cultural phenomenon bringing new generations into the world of Wicked, and it’s clear that fans can’t wait to see how the story continues on the big screen.”
Fandango is also offering fans a deal: anyone who buys a ticket for Wicked: For Good can rent or buy the first movie on Fandango at Home for just $9.
