Will Star-Lord Be in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’? Chris Pratt Finally Breaks His Silence
Marvel fans have spent months staring at their screens wondering why one very important chair was missing. When the cast of ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ was revealed, nearly every major hero from the last two decades of the Marvel Cinematic Universe got their moment, but Chris Pratt’s name never appeared.
Given that ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ ended with a title card promising Star-Lord would return, that omission felt like a genuine plot twist in real life. So naturally, fans want to know if Peter Quill is actually walking into this fight or if he is sitting this one out entirely.
Chris Pratt Addresses His Missing Chair
During the massive Doomsday cast reveal livestream, dozens of actors got their names printed on a chair while the world watched in real time. The livestream ran for more than five hours, with the camera panning every 10 to 15 minutes to reveal a new chair with a different actor’s name printed on the back. Chris Pratt was one of the biggest names missing from that lineup.
When asked about it later, Pratt leaned into the mystery rather than clearing it up. “I don’t know! I think it was, like, far off… They must have cut away from it. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know. It was there. I’m sure it was there,” he joked about his absence from the reveal.
Notably, no actors associated with the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ film franchise were mentioned during that livestream at all, which only added fuel to fan speculation that something behind the scenes was keeping Star-Lord out of the picture entirely.
So Is Star-Lord Actually Coming Back?
Despite dodging the question with jokes, Pratt has been fairly consistent about one thing, the promise made at the end of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ still stands. Speaking with Collider while promoting his film Mercy, Pratt said, “I can’t say, for fans of mine, where they’ll see Star-Lord again, but I can tell them we made a promise at the end of Vol. 3 that the legendary Star-Lord will return, and he will return.”
That statement stops short of confirming a ‘Doomsday’ appearance, and reporting has pointed toward a possible reason why. Reports indicated that Pratt may not reprise Star-Lord in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ due to a possible scheduling conflict with The Terminal List Season 2, which would explain why his name never made it onto a chair.
Word going around suggested Star-Lord is not featured in the current script, though that detail could always change as production continues. Marvel has also kept the door open for surprises, since the studio hinted that more cast reveals were planned for a later date even after the marathon livestream wrapped.
What Chris Pratt Recently Told
More recently, Pratt was asked directly about the trailers Marvel has already released for ‘Doomsday,’ and his answer did not exactly sound like someone hyping up his own scenes. Pratt suggested Peter Quill won’t be involved, telling GamesRadar he can’t wait to see the movie himself, which reads a lot more like a fan’s excitement than an actor teasing his own comeback.
That comment lines up with everything else pointing away from a ‘Doomsday’ appearance for Star-Lord. The confirmed cast for the film includes Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, and a long list of other major MCU players, but Pratt’s name still is not among them. For a movie built almost entirely around returning faces, his continued absence stands out.
Where This Leaves Peter Quill in the MCU
There is still a chance Star-Lord shows up in some capacity nobody has predicted yet, especially since Marvel has proven it enjoys surprises with this cast. Since the reveal, other previously unconfirmed returns like Chris Evans have been announced, meaning Pratt could still turn out to be a secret or supporting player in the film.
If that does not happen, there is another obvious landing spot on the horizon. Pratt and the rest of his Guardians castmates, none of whom appear on the Doomsday roster, could instead return later in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ That film is set to close out this chapter of the MCU.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and hits theaters on December 18, 2026, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ following in December 2027. Until Marvel says otherwise, Star-Lord’s return remains one of the MCU’s most talked about open questions.
