Ed Harris is heading to the Yellowstone universe. According to Deadline, the Oscar-nominated actor has joined Paramount+’s upcoming spinoff, The Dutton Ranch, which centers on Beth and Rip.

Harris will star alongside Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, and Finn Little, who are returning to their original roles. Annette Bening was also recently added to the cast.

The new series is set on the 7,000-acre ranch that Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler now call home. It’s a place they nearly lost and almost died protecting, but also where they’ve built a life together.

The story will follow the challenges they face to keep the ranch going while raising Carter, played by Finn Little, into the man they hope he can become.

Harris is playing Everett McKinney, a seasoned veteran who works as a veterinarian. His character is described as someone who cares deeply for animals, has a calm sense of humor, and brings wisdom to the ranch.

The show, created by Taylor Sheridan and run by Chad Feehan, will stick to the same present-day timeline as the original Yellowstone and is expected to stay closest in tone and story to the main series compared to other spinoffs.

Paramount has been busy expanding the Yellowstone franchise. Prequels 1883 and 1923 have already wrapped, while more shows are coming. Alongside The Dutton Ranch, there’s The Madison with Michelle Pfeiffer and Y: Marshals with Luke Grimes. Other projects, 1944 and 6666, are also in development.

Harris has a long list of credits across film, TV, and theater. He earned Academy Award nominations for Apollo 13, The Truman Show, Pollock, and The Hours. On TV, many viewers will remember him from HBO’s Westworld, where he played The Man in Black through all four seasons.

Recently, he narrated Netflix’s documentary Wyatt Earp and the Cowboy War and has roles coming up in Marvel’s Wonder Man, the comedy-thriller Huntington, and the sports comedy The Dink.
