Marvel Studios is bringing a new animated show called Marvel Zombies to Disney+, and it’s already creating a lot of buzz. The series is based on the popular Marvel Comics of the same name and continues the story from the What If…? episode titled “What If… Zombies?!” that first came out in 2021.

This show takes place in an alternate timeline where many heroes and villains have turned into zombies, and a small group of survivors is trying to stay alive. Zeb Wells is the creator and head writer, while Bryan Andrews is the director and showrunner.

Marvel Zombies is the 16th TV series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is produced by Marvel Studios Animation. It uses the same animation style as What If…?, which is a unique mix of 3D models with 2D lighting to make it look like flat drawings. Stellar Creative Lab, which worked on What If…?, is also handling the animation here. Unlike other Marvel series, this one will be rated TV-MA, meaning it’s aimed at a mature audience and will include more intense content.

The cast includes some well-known actors from the MCU, such as Awkwafina, David Harbour, Simu Liu, Elizabeth Olsen, Randall Park, Florence Pugh, Hailee Steinfeld, Dominique Thorne, and Iman Vellani, all reprising their roles. Todd Williams also joins the cast. This mix of talent brings back many familiar faces, making the show even more exciting for fans.

According to a report from Nexus Point News, three young heroes—Kamala Khan, Riri Williams, and Kate Bishop—are not only part of the story but are actually best friends in Marvel Zombies. Iman Vellani, Dominique Thorne, and Hailee Steinfeld will return to play these characters, marking their first time working together on screen since rumors about a Young Avengers project began circulating.

While Marvel Zombies itself isn’t officially part of the main MCU timeline, this on-screen team-up is a hint of what might be coming if the Young Avengers or Champions projects ever become a reality.

Fans have been eagerly waiting for the Young Avengers to appear in the MCU, and seeing these characters join forces in Marvel Zombies gives a small taste of their chemistry and teamwork. It also shows Marvel Studios’ willingness to explore darker and more mature stories, expanding the types of content they offer beyond the usual superhero action.

Marvel Zombies promises to be a thrilling mix of horror, action, and drama, with heroes turned into dangerous zombies and survivors fighting to stay alive. The TV-MA rating means viewers can expect more mature themes and intense scenes than usual for Marvel shows.

With the release date set for Disney+ later this year, fans have plenty to look forward to. This series not only adds a new, darker chapter to the Marvel universe but also teases the future of young heroes in the MCU. As Nexus Point News notes, the friendship between Kamala, Riri, and Kate in Marvel Zombies is a “teaser of what’s to come”, a chance to see these young heroes take the spotlight and possibly lead their own stories soon.
