Mark Fischbach, better known as YouTube star Markiplier, has released a new trailer for his upcoming horror movie, Iron Lung, which he is writing, directing, producing, and starring in.

The film marks Fischbach’s feature directorial debut and is an adaptation of the 2022 video game of the same name by David Szymanski.

Iron Lung is set in a dark, post-apocalyptic future after an event called the “Quiet Rapture” wiped out stars and habitable planets. In this bleak world, a convict, played by Fischbach, is tasked with exploring an ocean of blood on a desolate moon using a small submarine known as the “Iron Lung.” The story promises tense, claustrophobic horror in the rusting halls of a decaying space station.

Fischbach confirmed that he is self-financing the project, which also stars Caroline Rose Kaplan and Seán McLoughlin (Jacksepticeye), with David Szymanski contributing to the script and making a cameo. The soundtrack is composed by Andrew Hulshult, marking his first film scoring project.

Filming took place in Austin, Texas, and Fischbach has emphasized that the movie will feature an unprecedented amount of fake blood, surpassing even Evil Dead’s 50,000 gallons. He even experienced a minor injury on set due to the sheer volume of fake blood used. Production wrapped in April 2023, but post-production was temporarily delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, of which Fischbach is a member.

The movie is set for a theatrical release in the United States on January 30, 2026.

This project represents a major step for Fischbach, who previously directed interactive YouTube Original films like A Heist with Markiplier and In Space with Markiplier. He even turned down a role in Five Nights at Freddy’s to focus on Iron Lung, prioritizing the project despite conflicting schedules.

The release of the trailer has generated excitement among fans of both Markiplier and horror enthusiasts, who are eager to see how the YouTube star translates the intense, unsettling atmosphere of the game to the big screen.
