Zach Cregger’s Latest Hit Tops This Decade’s Horror Films With Perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score
Zach Cregger’s new horror film Weapons hasn’t even hit theaters yet, but it’s already making waves. The movie is set to be released in the United States on August 8, 2025, by Warner Bros. Pictures, but early reviews are glowing. In fact, it’s holding a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the highest-rated horror movie of the decade so far.
The story takes place in a small town where something strange happens one night. Seventeen children from the same classroom suddenly wake up in the middle of the night and run out of their homes toward an unknown destination. None of them return. The only child who stays behind is Alex Lilly, played by Cary Christopher. His teacher, Justine Gandy, portrayed by Julia Garner, is left to figure out what happened, along with the devastated parents and the rest of the town.

Josh Brolin plays Archer Graff, the father of one of the missing children, while Alden Ehrenreich appears as police officer Paul Morgan, who has a complicated history with Justine. Benedict Wong plays the school principal, and Amy Madigan plays Alex’s aunt. The film also features Austin Abrams, June Diane Raphael, Clayton Farris, Whitmer Thomas, Callie Schuttera, Toby Huss, and Luke Speakman.
Critics who have seen the movie are praising it for its originality and unpredictable storytelling. Many say it’s one of the most creative horror films in years, blending mystery, drama, and unsettling scares.
They point out that Cregger, who also wrote and produced the movie, has delivered something that stands out from the usual horror releases. Reviewers describe it as disturbing and at times uncomfortable, but also gripping and deeply engaging.
One reviewer called it “one of the most creative, unpredictable, and at times gory films I’ve seen this year, proving that Zach Cregger is someone we should never underestimate.” Another review said the movie confirms Cregger as “a major talent on the horror scene, one with an original vision and a commitment to character and storytelling as well as scaring the hell out of us.”
The movie’s Rotten Tomatoes score is based on 40 reviews, all of which are positive. On Metacritic, it holds an 81 out of 100, which signals “universal acclaim.” Critics agree that it’s not just a scary movie, but also a well-crafted story with strong performances and a lot of thought put into every detail.
