Zack Snyder has been sharing lots of behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram since joining the platform a few months ago.

Many of his posts focus on his DC movies, and fans recently got a special treat: a never-before-seen image of Ben Affleck as Batman. Snyder called the photo “one of my favorite Batman photos.”

Affleck first played Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He returned as the hero in a cameo for Suicide Squad and later starred in Justice League in 2017. Affleck described filming Justice League as a “difficult” experience.

Snyder had to step away from the project after the death of his daughter, and director Joss Whedon finished the film. There were reports of tension on set, and Affleck himself faced personal struggles, including addiction.

Todd McCarthy of The Hollywood Reporter noted that Affleck sometimes appeared disengaged on set, writing that he “looks like he’d rather be almost anywhere else but here.”

Afterward, Affleck stepped away from both directing and starring in The Batman, explaining that he “couldn’t crack it” and no longer felt connected to the story. He also took time off in 2017 to focus on his recovery from an alcoholism relapse.

Snyder’s Instagram post gives fans a chance to revisit Affleck’s time as Batman and highlights one of the director’s favorite moments from his DC films. Despite the challenges behind the scenes, Affleck’s portrayal of the Dark Knight remains memorable for many fans.
