Zootopia 2 has officially reached a new milestone for Walt Disney Animation Studios. The animated sequel has now become the highest-grossing film ever released under the Disney Animation banner, according to box office reports shared by industry trackers and Disney.

As of December 31, 2025, the movie has earned about $1.46 billion worldwide. Around $333 million of that total came from theaters in the United States and Canada. The rest, more than $1.13 billion, was made in international markets. These numbers were reported by major box office outlets tracking the film’s global performance.

The movie’s success started right away. During the five-day Thanksgiving holiday, it brought in nearly $159 million in North America alone. Its worldwide opening reached over $560 million, which became the biggest global opening ever for an animated film and one of the largest openings of any movie.

China played a major role in the film’s strong run. The movie earned more than $270 million in that market during its opening weekend. It also made history by becoming the first Hollywood movie to cross $100 million in a single day there. Less than three weeks after its release, Zootopia 2 passed the $1 billion mark worldwide on December 12.

With this performance, Zootopia 2 moved past Frozen 2, which previously held the record for Disney Animation with about $1.45 billion. However, it is not Disney’s biggest animated movie overall. Pixar’s Inside Out 2 still leads within Disney with nearly $1.7 billion. On a global scale, China’s Ne Zha 2 remains the highest-grossing animated movie ever, with more than $2.1 billion.

The film also received strong reactions from critics and audiences. Rotten Tomatoes reports that 91 percent of critics gave the movie a positive review.

The site’s consensus reads, “Cleverly laying a thoughtful message onto another crackerjack caper while solidifying Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as one of the most endearing buddy pairings in ages, Zootopia 2 more than justifies a return trip to the big city.” Metacritic gave the film a score of 73, showing generally positive reviews.

Audience response was just as strong. CinemaScore surveys showed moviegoers gave it an “A” grade, matching the score of the first film. PostTrak data also showed high approval, with most viewers reacting positively and many saying they would recommend it.
