‘Zootopia 2’ Projected to Dominate With 2025’s Biggest Box Office Opening
Zootopia 2 is already shaping up to be one of the biggest box office stories of 2025. Early numbers shared by Deadline say the movie could bring in more than $125 million during its first five days in the United States and Canada when it reaches theaters over Thanksgiving weekend. That would make it the strongest domestic opening of the year so far.
Even with those strong U.S. numbers, most of the early excitement is coming from overseas projections.
A scooper account, @BoxOfficeMojo, claimed the movie is currently tracking for a massive launch in China. According to the account, the sequel might clear more than $200 million in China alone during its opening and could end up with a worldwide debut above $500 million. While these early estimates can change, the movie is clearly being positioned for a major global release.

Disney is bringing back the same creative team behind the first movie. Jared Bush and Byron Howard directed the sequel, with Bush also writing the script. Yvett Merino produced it for Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Many cast members from the 2016 film returned, including Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, and Shakira. New actors such as Ke Huy Quan, Andy Samberg, Fortune Feimster, David Strathairn, Patrick Warburton, and Quinta Brunson also joined the project. This time, the story follows Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they go undercover to investigate a mysterious reptile named Gary De’Snake, who becomes Zootopia’s newest resident.
Zootopia 2 held its premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on November 13. It is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on November 26. With family audiences returning to cinemas and the first movie still widely loved, Disney is hoping the sequel delivers another major hit.

As for the big overseas projections, fans and box office watchers have been reacting with surprise online. Many people are curious to see whether the movie really will reach the giant numbers being discussed. Some say that China’s love for the first film could help the sequel, while others think the predictions sound too high this early on.
If these early tracking numbers hold, Zootopia 2 could easily become one of Disney’s biggest openings in years. Now it’s just a matter of waiting to see how close the actual results come to the early estimates.
