Zootopia 2 is turning into a huge force at the Chinese box office even before it comes out. Early numbers show the animated sequel climbing past the presales of ‘Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle’ and ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, which has been one of the most talked-about anime films of the year.

At first, the movie was almost a million dollars behind, but it quickly gained speed and moved ahead. Local box office data shared by Chinese presale trackers shows that it now ranks among the strongest Hollywood openings in China since Avatar: The Way of Water.

Reports say the movie could make more than 200 million dollars during its opening weekend in China if the current trend holds. Deadline Hollywood also says the film is expected to earn over 125 million dollars across the United States and Canada during the Thanksgiving weekend.

Zootopia 2 is Disney’s follow-up to the hit movie from 2016. It is directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard and produced by Yvett Merino.

Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, and Shakira returned to their roles, and new cast members include Ke Huy Quan, Andy Samberg, Fortune Feimster, David Strathairn, Patrick Warburton, and Quinta Brunson. In this new story, Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde go undercover again, this time to investigate a strange new reptile resident named Gary De’Snake.

The movie had its world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on November 13. It will be released in the United States on November 26. With the way presales are growing overseas, the film is shaping up to be one of Disney’s biggest releases of the year.
