‘Zootopia 2’ Smashes Two Major Records and Makes Disney History
Zootopia 2 is having a massive run at the global box office and is already making history. According to box office reports from Disney and industry trackers, the animated sequel has now passed $1.4 billion worldwide, putting it among the biggest animated films ever made.
The movie has officially become the second highest-grossing film in the history of Walt Disney Animation Studios.
It also reached another major milestone by becoming the first Hollywood movie since Titanic to sell more than 100 million tickets in a single country. That country is China, where the film has been especially strong. So far, Zootopia 2 has earned around $550 million there alone, making it one of the most successful foreign films ever released in the market.
The sequel opened in theaters in late November and quickly took off. It pulled in huge numbers during the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States and Canada, then exploded overseas.
In China, the movie broke records within days, including becoming the first Hollywood release to make over $100 million in just one day. Less than three weeks after release, the film crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide.
Zootopia 2 brings back Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, once again voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman. The story follows the duo as they go on the run while trying to clear their names after being framed. Many familiar voices returned, along with new cast members joining the sequel. The film was written by Jared Bush and directed by Bush and Byron Howard.

Critics have responded positively overall. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie holds a strong score, with the site’s consensus saying, “Cleverly laying a thoughtful message onto another crackerjack caper while solidifying Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as one of the most endearing buddy pairings in ages, Zootopia 2 more than justifies a return trip to the big city.”
Audience reactions have also been solid, with CinemaScore giving the film an A grade, matching the response to the first movie.
With its box office success, talk of a third Zootopia film is already gaining steam. Reports say the directors confirmed that early ideas and sketches for another sequel are already in progress. A post-credits scene and hidden hints in the movie have also fueled fan excitement about where the story could go next.
