2025’s Scariest Movie Is Back on the Big Screen for Halloween
Horror fans in Florida have a rare treat this Halloween. The Autonation IMAX Theater at the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale will show Sinners again in IMAX 70MM film on October 31.
This is a special opportunity to see the movie on true IMAX 15/70mm, and the theater is one of the biggest and most advanced in the U.S. It’s the 15th largest IMAX screen in the country and one of only five theaters worldwide that has both IMAX dual laser projection and 15/70mm film projection.
Sinners is written, produced, and directed by Ryan Coogler. The story is set in 1932 in the Mississippi Delta and follows criminal twin brothers, played by Michael B. Jordan, who return to their hometown and confront a supernatural evil. The movie also stars Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton in his film debut, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, and Delroy Lindo.
Coogler developed the project through his production company, Proximity Media, with Jordan cast in the lead roles. The film was announced in January 2024, and after a bidding war, Warner Bros. Pictures picked up the distribution rights. Filming took place from April to July 2024, with longtime Coogler collaborator Ludwig Göransson composing the score and serving as an executive producer.

Sinners premiered on April 3, at AMC Lincoln Square in New York City and was released across the U.S. on April 18. The film was both a critical and commercial success, earning $366.7 million worldwide, including $278.6 million in the U.S. and Canada.
On Rotten Tomatoes, 97 percent of 411 critic reviews were positive, with the consensus calling it “a rip-roaring fusion of masterful visual storytelling and toe-tapping music, writer-director Ryan Coogler’s first original blockbuster reveals the full scope of his singular imagination.” Metacritic gave it a score of 84 out of 100, indicating universal acclaim. Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave it an “A,” the highest grade for a horror film in 35 years.
Critics praised Coogler’s vision and the performances. Rolling Stone’s A.A. Dowd said Coogler was “swinging wide and far beyond the boundaries of franchise fare,” while The Observer’s Wendy Ide noted that “Coogler’s assurance and vision holds everything together.” Peter Travers of ABC News called it “Coogler and Jordan’s best and most daring work yet.”
Some reviewers preferred the more grounded first half over the supernatural second half, and The Wall Street Journal’s Zachary Barnes suggested the story didn’t fully come together thematically, though he praised Jordan’s acting.
Coogler has cited Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk Till Dawn as inspiration and compared the film’s style to The Faculty. Fans in Florida will get a chance to experience the full scope of Coogler’s vision on one of the world’s most impressive IMAX screens this Halloween.
