20th Television Now Owns Rights to Rick Riordan’s ‘The Kane Chronicles’

It’s official! 20th Television, a company under The Walt Disney Company, has taken over the rights to The Kane Chronicles, the popular book series by Rick Riordan. This means they now have permission to make a TV show, movie, or other entertainment based on the books.
Back in June 2024, it was first reported by Nexus Point News that a show based on The Kane Chronicles was in the works for Disney+.
Now, with this new update, 20th Television can move forward and turn the book series into a full production. This is the same studio that created the Disney+ hit series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which is also based on Riordan’s writing.
Originally, The Kane Chronicles was supposed to become a movie series on Netflix. That plan was announced in 2020. But after four years without much progress, Rick Riordan said in early 2024 that the Netflix project had been canceled.
A few months later, in May 2024, he mentioned he was looking at new options. Now it looks like those new plans are finally moving forward with Disney.
The Kane Chronicles tells the story of Carter and Sadie Kane, a brother and sister who find out they are powerful magicians. They come from a long line of Egyptian pharaohs like Narmer and Ramses the Great. In the books, they go on wild adventures and face Egyptian gods and magical threats, all happening in today’s world.
Even though this series focuses on Egyptian myths, there are small nods and connections to Rick Riordan’s other stories, like Percy Jackson. That means all of his characters may live in the same world, just in different parts of it.
