The sequel to The Devil Wears Prada 2 is now in theaters, bringing back the original main cast and a long list of celebrity cameos. According to reports from sources like Variety and Entertainment Weekly, not everything filmed for the movie made it into the final cut. Several actors were removed during editing for different creative reasons.

The film sees the return of Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, who all reprise their roles nearly 20 years after the original movie. Alongside them, many real-life celebrities appear as themselves in short cameo roles.

One of the most discussed removals is actor Conrad Ricamora. He was originally set to play Andy’s roommate in the sequel. Ricamora later shared on Instagram that filming the movie was a positive experience, but his role did not stay in the final version.

He wrote, “Getting to work with the icon Anne Hathaway, the genius Aline Brosh McKenna, all the while being directed by the steady hand of David Frankel will forever be on the highlight reel of my life. However, in the end, my character didn’t make sense in the grand scheme of the film (something about me being too sexy and hott and my muscles being too big…story of my life).”

Reports from Variety explain that test audiences questioned why Andy needed a roommate in the story. Because of that feedback, the filmmakers changed the plot. Instead of using Ricamora’s character, the film shifts Andy’s personal storyline toward her connection with her old friend Lily, played by Tracie Thoms.

Another cut cameo came from Sydney Sweeney. She was spotted filming a brief scene where she appeared as herself, being styled by Emily Blunt’s character. According to Entertainment Weekly, the scene was removed in editing because it did not fit smoothly into the final structure of the film, even though the team appreciated her involvement.

The film also had a planned appearance from Anna Wintour, the real-life fashion editor who inspired the Miranda Priestly character. Director David Frankel said on the Back Row podcast that Wintour visited the set during filming at Dior offices, but her cameo was never properly completed. He explained, “Unfortunately, Anna jumped her cue, so the shot isn’t always in focus. And I didn’t want to do a second take. I can’t ask Anna to do take two.”

The final version of The Devil Wears Prada 2 still keeps its core cast and story, but these cuts show how much a film can change during editing. Even with big names attached, not every filmed scene makes it to theaters.

This kind of editing is normal for big sequels, especially when the story has to stay tight and focused. Still, it’s always interesting to hear about scenes and cameos that never make it to the screen. What do you think about these cuts? Would you have liked to see these actors in the final film?
