‘Clayface’ Set Photos Reveal New Addition to the Cast
The upcoming Clayface movie is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about projects in the DC Universe.
What started as an idea pitched by filmmaker Mike Flanagan has now grown into a dark and unusual film that fans are eager to see.
Back in March 2023, Flanagan met with DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran to talk about bringing Clayface to the big screen. His take was different, aiming to show the character as more than just a villain. By December 2024, DC Studios gave the project the green light with Flanagan writing the script.
Producer Peter Safran even teased the movie’s style, comparing it to David Cronenberg’s classic horror film from 1986. “It will lean into body horror,” Safran explained, making it clear this won’t be a typical superhero movie.
Although Flanagan originally wanted to direct, his schedule got in the way. He was busy working on The Exorcist and a new Carrie miniseries. Because of that, James Watkins stepped in to direct, while writer Hossein Amini was brought on to polish the script. The film is also being produced by Matt Reeves through his company 6th & Idaho Productions.
The cast is slowly coming together. In June, Tom Rhys Harries was confirmed to take on the role of Clayface himself. Just recently, new set photos and videos surfaced online and revealed that Eddie Marsan has also joined the cast, though his character hasn’t been announced yet.

Separate set of photos also shut down rumors about Robert Pattinson’s Batman showing up in the DCU, since the Gotham City Police Department logos on the cars were completely different.
Naomi Ackie has signed on to play Caitlin Bates, while Max Minghella will play her fiancé John. The story, according to reports, will follow a struggling actor whose face is disfigured by a gangster.
With nowhere else to turn, he seeks help from a fringe scientist who has shades of Elizabeth Holmes. At first, the treatment works, but the horror soon begins. As one source described it, “It wouldn’t be a horror movie if the story ended right there, would it?”
Filming began earlier this month at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, England. The movie is already shaping up to be a bold step for DC, and fans can expect it to hit theaters on September 11, 2026.
