Snoop Dogg is under fire after making comments about LGBTQ+ characters in Pixar’s Lightyear.

The rapper said that watching the movie with his grandson left him confused and uncomfortable, and his reaction has sparked major backlash.

Speaking on the It’s Giving podcast, Snoop recalled being surprised when the film showed a character, Alisha, who is married to a woman and raising a child. His grandson asked questions during the movie, and Snoop admitted he didn’t know how to respond.

“Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!” his grandson asked.

Snoop said the moment caught him off guard. “I just came to watch the goddamn movie,” he said. “They just said, she and she had a baby — they’re both women. How does she have a baby? It f**** me up. I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of s*** that I don’t have an answer for.”

He also argued that children are too young to see these stories. “These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer,” he added.

After his remarks spread online, what looked like an apology appeared in the comments of a Hollywood Unlocked video. The message, supposedly from Snoop’s verified Instagram account, read: “All my gay friends [know] what’s up, they been calling me with love. My bad for not knowing the answers for a 6-year-old. Teach me how to learn. I’m not perfect.”

But according to Deadline, that post wasn’t real. A source close to Snoop said neither he nor his team wrote the message, even though it came from his official account. The comment has since been deleted.

Meanwhile, writer Lauren Gunderson, who worked on early drafts of Lightyear, publicly defended the choice to give Alisha a wife and child.

On Instagram, she explained that she created the idea while working at Pixar in 2018. “As small as that detail is in the film, I knew the representational effect it could have. Small line, big deal. I was elated that they kept it,” she wrote. Gunderson added that she was proud to see a loving queer couple onscreen, even if only briefly. “Beautiful love like this exists,” she said.
