Wicked: For Good, the follow-up to the 2024 hit musical film Wicked, is coming to theaters on November 21. Directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, the movie continues the story of Elphaba and Glinda in the magical Land of Oz.

It is based on the second half of the popular 2003 stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman, which itself was inspired by Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel—a reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s classic 1900 book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and the 1939 film version.

The plot picks up years after the first movie. Elphaba, now called the Wicked Witch of the West, is living as a fugitive while fighting for animal rights.

Glinda, now Glinda the Good, has become a well-known public figure under the watch of the Wizard and Madame Morrible. Their friendship faces new challenges, especially after Dorothy Gale arrives from Kansas, bringing unexpected changes to Oz.

Fans will be happy to know that a new teaser for Wicked: For Good has been released. The teaser gives a first look at the music, the magic, and the dramatic events that await audiences in the sequel.

The main cast returns from the first film. Cynthia Erivo plays Elphaba, Ariana Grande is back as Glinda, and Jonathan Bailey returns as Fiyero.

Other cast members include Jeff Goldblum, Marissa Bode, Ethan Slater, Michelle Yeoh, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, and Sharon D. Clarke. Kerry Ellis, who starred as Elphaba on Broadway and the West End, will also appear in a cameo.

The film has been in the works for over a decade. Universal Pictures and Marc Platt, who produced the stage musical, first announced the project in 2012.

Filming started in December 2022 in England but was briefly paused in 2023 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. It finished in January 2024. To give the story enough room and keep all the important plot points, the filmmakers decided to split the story into two movies.

Wicked: For Good will be shown in theaters with various formats including IMAX, RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, ScreenX, and D-Box. After its theatrical run, the movie will stream first on Peacock for four months, then on Amazon Prime Video for ten months, before returning to Peacock for the final four months.
