A new take on Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights is on the way, and the first trailer has now been released. Directed by Emerald Fennell, the film puts Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi at the center of the stormy love story, and the preview makes clear this is not a traditional period drama.

The trailer shows a mix of passion and tension. It cuts between scenes of intimacy, charged stares, and moments that highlight the chemistry between Robbie and Elordi. Their version of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff looks far more fiery than past adaptations, leaning into desire as much as heartbreak.

The original novel, published in 1847, tells the story of two families living on the Yorkshire moors and the complicated relationship they have with Heathcliff, who grows up in their household. Brontë’s book is known as one of the most enduring works of English literature, but Fennell’s film seems set on reimagining it with her own bold touch.

Robbie is not only starring in the movie but also producing through her company LuckyChap, which worked with Fennell on Saltburn and Promising Young Woman. Fennell, who won an Oscar for the latter, has written and directed this version as well.

There has been controversy around casting. In the novel, Heathcliff is described as dark-skinned and of uncertain origin, which has often been interpreted as central to his character’s outsider status. Some critics have questioned the decision to cast Elordi in the role, raising concerns about ignoring that aspect of Brontë’s writing.

Even so, Elordi praised the project when speaking to Deadline earlier this year. He said, “The performances from everyone — it’s breathtaking. It’s an incredible romance. It’s a true epic. It’s visually beautiful. The script is beautiful. The costumes are incredible.”

The film is backed by MRC with Warner Bros. handling distribution. It is set to open in theaters on February 13, 2026, just before Valentine’s Day.
