Marlon Wayans Names Modern Horror Films Ripe for Spoofing in ‘Scary Movie 6’
The Scary Movie franchise is officially making a comeback. A new installment, Scary Movie 6, is on the way with producer Neal H. Moritz, financed by Miramax and set for release on June 12, 2026, through Paramount Pictures.
The film began shooting in October 2024 and marks the long-awaited reunion of the Wayans brothers, their first in nearly two decades. Fans can also expect the return of Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks and Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell.
Now, Marlon Wayans has revealed which recent horror hits he thinks would be perfect to parody in the new movie.
1. ‘Sinners’ (2025)

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners has quickly become one of the biggest horror hits of 2025. Set in the Mississippi Delta during 1932, it stars Michael B. Jordan playing twin brothers who return home only to face a dark supernatural force.
The film earned critical praise, pulled in over $366 million worldwide, and its eerie Southern Gothic setting mixed with supernatural twists makes it a prime candidate for parody in Scary Movie 6.
2. ‘Get Out’ (2017)

Jordan Peele’s Get Out was a breakout horror hit in 2017, blending social commentary with psychological thrills. Starring Daniel Kaluuya as a young man who makes a disturbing discovery when visiting his girlfriend’s family, the film became both a critical and box office success, earning over $255 million on a small budget and winning Peele an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
With its eerie “meet the parents” setup, hypnotic scenes, and creepy suburban paranoia.
3. ‘Nope’ (2022)

Jordan Peele’s NOPE mixed sci-fi, horror, and Western vibes into a story about siblings, played by Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer, trying to capture proof of a UFO over their California ranch. The 2022 hit pulled in $172 million and was praised for its bold visuals and unique take on alien invasion films.
With its eerie sky-watching scenes, a blood-soaked house, and a creepy balloon spectacle, NOPE gives Scary Movie 6 plenty of material to lampoon—especially the idea of characters risking everything just to get the perfect shot.
4. ‘Longlegs’ (2024)

Longlegs became one of 2024’s breakout horror hits, with Nicolas Cage playing a disturbing occult serial killer who leaves FBI agents chasing clues through Oregon in the 1990s.
Directed by Osgood Perkins, the film earned rave reviews and made over $128 million worldwide on a small budget, making it Neon’s biggest hit ever. With its creepy ‘70s flashbacks, unsettling pale makeup, and Cage’s over-the-top performance, the movie is practically begging to be spoofed in Scary Movie 6.
5. ‘Heretic’ (2024)

Heretic is a 2024 psychological horror film about Mormon missionaries, played by Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East, who encounter the unsettling and mysterious Mr. Reed, portrayed by Hugh Grant.
The movie mixes tense domestic horror with dark humor, earning positive reviews and over $59 million worldwide. Hugh Grant’s creepy, over-the-top performance and the awkward, suspense-filled missionary visits make it a perfect target for parody.
6. ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ (2025)

The 2025 reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer brings back the classic slasher formula with a modern twist. Set 27 years after the original murders, a new hook-wielding killer targets a group of friends who covered up a deadly accident.
Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui Wonders lead the cast, while Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their iconic roles. With its over-the-top suspense, return of familiar faces, and a killer stalking teenagers through predictable jump-scare setups, the film offers plenty of material for parody.
