Taylor Sheridan’s Hit Crime Drama Renewed for Season 4
Paramount+ has renewed Tulsa King for a fourth season, just as the red carpet event for Season 3 took place in New York. The new season comes ahead of the third season’s premiere on Paramount+ on September 21.
The show, created by Taylor Sheridan and starring Sylvester Stallone, has been a hit for the network. It boosted ratings on the Paramount Network and set streaming records for Paramount+.
Critics have generally praised Stallone’s performance, though some have criticized the dialogue and storylines. The series was even nominated for a Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award in 2023.
There will be changes behind the scenes in Season 4. Deadline reports that Terence Winter will return as executive producer and head writer, while Dave Erickson, the showrunner for Season 3, will step down.
Reviews for the series have been mostly positive. On Rotten Tomatoes, all five critics’ reviews were favorable, with an average rating of 6.8 out of 10. Jeff Ewing from Collider said the second season “introduced new threats, but struggles to find its tone,” noting that it started with too many filler episodes.
Joel Keller from Decider commented that the series “has become less of a fish out of water story and more of a story about just what kind of absurd scheme Dwight and his motley crew can pull off.” He also said the first episode tried to cover too many storylines and leaned more toward comedy than crime.
Some critics highlighted Stallone’s acting. Emiliano Basile from EscribiendoCine wrote that Stallone “gives his character the characteristic charisma and powerful phrases that have accompanied him since Rocky.” Basile also praised the costume design and Sheridan’s take on cultural issues in the United States.

The series has faced some controversy. During Season 2, the Quapaw Nation criticized the show for portraying fictional tribal leaders in criminal conspiracies without consulting the tribe. They called it “cultural appropriation.” Later, Paramount and the tribe said they had reached a “positive resolution.”
Tulsa King’s mix of action, humor, and Stallone’s star power has kept audiences engaged, and the return of Terence Winter suggests Season 4 may return to the show’s original tone.
