First Trailer Drops for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s ‘The Bride’ Featuring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale
Maggie Gyllenhaal’s new film, The Bride!, is finally giving audiences their first glimpse with the release of the official trailer.
The movie stars Jessie Buckley as the Bride and Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s monster. Also appearing are Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz. Gyllenhaal wrote, directed, and produced the film, which is inspired by the 1935 classic Bride of Frankenstein and Mary Shelley’s original 1818 novel.
Set in 1930s Chicago, the story follows Frankenstein’s monster as he asks Dr. Euphronius to create a companion for him. The experiment brings a murdered woman to life as “the Bride,” sparking romance, police attention, and social upheaval.
Jessie Buckley leads the cast as the Bride, while Bale embodies the iconic monster. Sarsgaard plays a detective, Bening takes on the role of Dr. Euphronius, and Penélope Cruz appears as Myrna. Maggie’s brother Jake Gyllenhaal is also part of the ensemble.

The film was originally planned as a Netflix project, but after the 2023 Hollywood strikes, Netflix reportedly abandoned it. Warner Bros. stepped in to produce, giving Gyllenhaal full creative control.
Principal photography started in March 2024 in New York City. According to Sarsgaard, the film will include “big dance numbers,” adding a unique twist to the classic story. The score is composed by Hildur Guðnadóttir, and editing was completed by Dylan Tichenor.
The Bride! is scheduled for release in the United States on March 6, 2026. The trailer highlights the dark and stylish world Gyllenhaal has crafted, giving fans a first look at the new take on this legendary story.
