Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel TV, revealed plans for the release of Marvel Animation shows.

He confirmed that new seasons of X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will arrive every year. Regarding Marvel Zombies, Winderbaum added it could continue if enough fans watch it.

X-Men ’97 is a revival of the classic 1990s series X-Men: The Animated Series. The show was created by Beau DeMayo for Disney+ and continues the story of the X-Men team. DeMayo led the first two seasons as head writer, and Matthew Chauncey took over for the third season. Jake Castorena serves as supervising director.

The series features many returning voices, including Jennifer Hale, Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Alison Sealy-Smith, and Adrian Hough, alongside Ray Chase, J. P. Karliak, A. J. LoCascio, Holly Chou, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Matthew Waterson, and Ross Marquand. Several original cast members, like Catherine Disher, Chris Potter, and Alyson Court, returned to voice new characters.

X-Men ’97 was first discussed in June 2019 and officially announced in November 2021. Animation is handled by Studio Mir and Tiger Animation, offering a modernized take on the original series’ style.

The first season premiered on March 20, 2024, with episodes released weekly, concluding on May 15. The show received critical acclaim, and its second season is expected in 2026, with a third season already in development.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is another Marvel animated series coming to Disney+. Created by Jeff Trammell, the show focuses on Peter Parker’s early days as Spider-Man. Set in an alternate timeline where Norman Osborn mentors Peter instead of Tony Stark, it explores familiar characters and ideas in new ways. Trammell acts as showrunner and head writer, and Mel Zwyer is supervising director.

Hudson Thames returns as the voice of Peter Parker, with Kari Wahlgren, Grace Song, Eugene Byrd, Zeno Robinson, Colman Domingo, Hugh Dancy, and Charlie Cox also starring. The series was first announced in November 2021 under the title Spider-Man: Freshman Year and was retitled Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man by December 2023. The animation, provided by Polygon Pictures and CGCG, Inc., pays tribute to the early Spider-Man comic book art style by Steve Ditko and John Romita Sr.

The show premiered on January 29, with two episodes, and the remainder of the 10-episode first season was released in groups until February 19, as part of Phase Five of the MCU. Critics praised its action, comedy, nostalgic elements, and animation. Season two is planned for 2026, with a third season already in the works.

Marvel fans can now expect annual updates for both X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, providing a steady stream of content from the animation side of the MCU.
