The first season of Alien: Earth has ended, and the shocking finale has left viewers asking for more.

The series, created by Noah Hawley, is the first television show set in the Alien universe. The story takes place two years before the 1979 film Alien.

Sydney Chandler leads the cast alongside Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, Adarsh Gourav, and Timothy Olyphant.

Plans for the project have been in the works for years. Reports say development began back in 2019, with Ridley Scott joining as executive producer for FX on Hulu.

After delays caused by the pandemic and later the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, filming finally moved ahead in mid-2024. Production wrapped that July. The show premiered on August 12, on FX and FX on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ for international viewers.

Disney has not yet confirmed a second season, but Hawley has shared that he is hopeful. Speaking with Polygon, he said, “I’m pretty confident, given the show’s success, that we’ll get to make more. The risk is the reward.”

The cast is also eager to return. Sydney Chandler, who plays Wendy, told Polygon, “As Noah said, not enough people died in Season 1. So if we go to Season 2, it’s happening, which is terrifying. As an actor, you’re like: please don’t let it be me.”

Variety added that work on Season 2 has not started yet. Hawley admitted it is still at the discussion stage but said the creative team is ready to act fast once the studio makes its decision. “The moment they fire the starting gun, I’m out of the block,” he told the outlet.

For now, the future of Alien: Earth is in Disney’s hands. Fans will have to wait and see whether the story continues, but Hawley has made it clear that he’s ready to keep building the world if given the chance.
