The future of Pirates of the Caribbean is still taking shape, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that Margot Robbie remains connected to the next movie in the series.

Speaking at TheWrap’s TheGrill 2025 conference, Bruckheimer explained where things stand with the long-running Disney franchise.

He made it clear that nothing will move forward until the script is strong enough. “We’re working on a script,” he said. “If we don’t have it on the page, it’s not gonna get on the screen.”

According to Bruckheimer, there have been several versions of the project over the years. At one point, two scripts were being developed, but eventually one of them was dropped and the team chose to move forward with the other.

For fans wondering about Margot Robbie’s reported spinoff that had seemed abandoned, Bruckheimer confirmed she is still tied to the new film. “She’s still involved,” he revealed, while also noting that franchise veteran Ted Elliott worked on the current draft. “He worked on it, and we’ve brought someone else in to fill in the blanks.”

The sixth film has been in development for years, with Disney exploring different directions, including a reboot and fresh storylines with new and returning characters. Actors like Orlando Bloom have shown interest in returning, while Johnny Depp’s possible involvement continues to depend on the script.

For now, Bruckheimer says the priority is getting the story right before production can begin. With Margot Robbie still attached and Elliott contributing to the writing, the franchise may soon set sail again.

I think it’s exciting to see Margot Robbie still connected to Pirates of the Caribbean. Her involvement could bring a fresh energy to the series while keeping its big-screen appeal alive. But what do you think — should Disney push forward with a new direction led by Robbie, or bring back the original cast for another adventure? Share your thoughts in the comments.
