HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter TV series is already stirring conversation online. The show plans to adapt one book per season, aiming to explore the novels in greater detail than the films allowed.

This approach gives the creators more room to include material that was cut from the movies, but it also comes with a challenge: the series will always be compared to the iconic films that shaped a generation.

Recently, the Wizarding World Direct account on X shared photos and a short video of the HBO version of the Hogwarts Express. Many fans noted that the train looks almost identical to the one in the movies. Some viewers even said it could be mistaken for a behind-the-scenes movie shot.

Is it the same as in the movies? Or just very similar?” One commenter asked.

The discussion goes beyond fans. Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter films, recently commented on the TV adaptation.

He criticized the decision to reuse Hagrid’s costume from the movies, saying, “Part of me was like: ‘What’s the point?’” Columbus expected the HBO series to bring something new, and he might feel the same about the new Hogwarts Express.

As production continues for the first season, more set photos are appearing online. These images have sparked debates about how much the series should honor the original films versus creating its own visual identity.

While some fans are excited by the faithful recreation, others hope the series will develop a look and feel that sets it apart from the movies.
