Xbox has announced a major price increase for its Game Pass Ultimate subscription, and fans are not happy.

The highest-tier plan will now cost $29.99 a month in the US, which is a 50 percent jump from the previous price. Many subscribers are trying to cancel before their next payment goes through, but they are running into problems.

As plenty of users have shared online, the page to cancel Xbox Game Pass subscriptions is crashing. Even when the page loads, it runs very slowly. This suggests that a lot of people are leaving Game Pass after this sudden price increase.

Many users have commented that “the site keeps crashing for me”, which seems to be caused by unusually high traffic. A surge like this is expected when a service sees such a significant price hike.

To put this increase into perspective, Game Pass Ultimate will now cost $360 a year. That’s about $60 more than the launch price of the Xbox Series S. With hardware prices also increasing, some consoles now cost less than a year of the subscription.

Game Pass was once praised for its affordability, making it popular among gamers. But with rising costs across gaming, and expensive hardware like the ROG Xbox Ally X priced at $999.99, many in the community are questioning Xbox’s strategy. Some feel the company’s approach has become confusing and inconsistent.
