This week, the Epic Games Store is offering just one free game for PC players. The spotlight is on Nightingale, a 2024 open-world survival game currently in early access from developer and publisher Inflexion Games.

Players have only one week to claim it for free, as the offer ends on October 9, when two new free games will be available.

Nightingale has drawn attention since its early access release on February 20, 2024. On Steam, it is priced at $29.99 and has nearly 10,000 user reviews. Overall, the game holds a “Mostly Positive” rating with 71 percent approval, though recent feedback is mixed at 64 percent.

Some players have criticized updates and performance issues, which is not uncommon for early access games built on Unreal Engine 5.

Set in a Victorian-era gaslamp fantasy world, Nightingale mixes survival and light role-playing elements. Players take on the role of interdimensional travelers trying to return to Nightingale, a human settlement in the “Faewilds,” after a disaster known as the Pale.

In the game, players must manage food, rest, and resources while crafting tools and items. Bedrolls help restore stamina, while umbrellas allow players to glide across the landscape.

Combat features both melee and firearms, and non-player characters, including figures like Victor Frankenstein and Mr. Hyde, provide quests and assistance. Players can explore different realms, each procedurally generated and customizable, with biomes ranging from deserts to swamps.

The game supports solo play or cooperative play with up to six people, and offers both first-person and third-person perspectives.

Nightingale gives players a mix of survival challenges, exploration, and cooperative gameplay in a unique Victorian fantasy world.
