Netflix’s Most-Watched Movie Ever Is Returning to Theaters (Again)
Netflix is bringing its biggest hit yet, “KPop Demon Hunters,” back to movie theaters for a special Halloween event.
The animated film, which follows a fictional K-pop girl group fighting demons with their music, will have sing-along screenings from October 31 through November 2. Fans are even encouraged to come in costume, according to a Netflix press release. The movie will play at AMC, Regal, and Cinemark locations, as well as select theaters across the country.
This is a rare move for Netflix, which typically focuses on streaming rather than theatrical releases. The film first hit theaters for a two-day sing-along in late August, earning an estimated $18 million at the box office.
Despite its short run, the release proved popular. Since its streaming debut in June, “KPop Demon Hunters” has become Netflix’s most-watched movie ever. Its original songs “Golden,” “Your Idol,” and “Soda Pop” have also been hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Bringing the film back to theaters helps generate excitement for re-watches and its upcoming sequel.

AMC Theatres, which didn’t show the film during its initial run, will now host screenings at about 400 locations in the U.S. and Europe. This move signals a warming relationship between the world’s largest theater chain and Netflix, which has generally avoided long theatrical windows for its films.
An AMC spokesperson told Variety, “While the two companies have not had a commercial relationship in recent years, both Netflix and AMC are intrigued by the mutually beneficial opportunities that could arise from this and future collaboration. Discussions are underway as to what that may entail, but no further details are being shared at this time.”
For theaters, this re-release is a timely boost during a slow October at the box office, when few major titles are opening. It joins other Halloween-era releases like Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone’s thriller “Bugonia” and a “Twilight” re-release.
