Keith Urban & Blake Shelton Launch ‘The Road’ Music Series with Billie Jo Jones
CBS is introducing a new music competition show called The Road, executive-produced by country stars Blake Shelton and Keith Urban, alongside Taylor Sheridan, Lee Metzger, and David Glasser.
The series will follow 12 emerging musicians as they tour and perform as opening acts for Urban at seven different venues across three states.
Shelton, who grew up in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, has been closely involved in selecting contestants and choosing performance locations. The show also features two Oklahoma performers, Blaine Bailey and Cody Hibbard, and two of the stops are in Oklahoma, giving the series a strong connection to the state.
The Road is designed as a “docu-follow” series, offering viewers a close-up look at the highs and lows of trying to break into the music industry.
Contestants will be seen performing, writing songs, and navigating the challenges of life on tour. Shelton shared, “I know a thing or two about singing competitions and what it’s like to chase a music dream and live life on tour. I’m looking forward to discovering new talent and giving them this platform.”
Keith Urban will headline the tour, giving these new artists the opportunity to play in front of live audiences and gain real-world experience.
Taylor Sheridan, best known for creating Yellowstone, highlighted the series as a chance to shape the next wave of country music talent. “There is a revolution taking place in country music. Building a platform with Blake for the next leaders of that revolution is an incredibly exciting venture. No more shiny floors and studio audiences. This is where the rubber meets the road — literally,” Sheridan said.
The series promises to show the behind-the-scenes reality of touring, from long days on the road to the effort it takes to win over crowds and make a name in the music industry.
