Hailey Bieber Explains Why Being Told She “Looks Trans” Isn’t an Insult
Hailey Bieber is speaking out against online transphobia and sharing why she doesn’t take certain comments as insults.
On a recent episode of the In Your Dreams podcast with her friend Owen Thiele, the 28-year-old model and entrepreneur addressed trolls who question her gender identity online.
Bieber explained that she has seen people say things like, “She looks trans,” in a way that is clearly meant to insult her. Instead of feeling hurt, she chose to respond thoughtfully.
“People are trying to be mean. They’re like, ‘She looks trans.’ And I’m like, why do you think that’s a diss?” she said. She went on to challenge the idea that being transgender could ever be considered negative. “As if being trans is a diss? Some of the most beautiful women, and men, in the world are trans. I don’t take that offensively at all,” Bieber added.
Her comments highlight a common online tactic where calling someone “trans” is intended as an insult due to a clear difference in physical appearance. Bieber’s response flips the narrative, showing support for the trans community and rejecting the notion that transgender identity is something to be mocked.
The conversation on the podcast started casually, with Bieber joking about adjusting her jeans, but quickly turned serious when she addressed the negative comments she encounters online.
She also shared a broader message about kindness and understanding, saying, “My big dream is that people have more empathy. If we could meet each other with a little bit more understanding, I feel like society would be a better place.”
Bieber’s stance sends a clear message: transphobic comments are not only harmful but unnecessary, and identity should never be used as a way to insult someone.
