Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed again, now scheduled for release on November 19, 2026.

The news came during Take-Two Interactive’s second-quarter earnings report. Take-Two said the delay is meant to give Rockstar “some additional time to finish the game with the high level of polish players expect and deserve. Rockstar has our full support of course, and we are confident they will deliver an unrivalled blockbuster entertainment experience.”

Grand Theft Auto VI was first expected in fall 2025, a date Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick had initially backed despite ongoing speculation about potential delays. The release was later pushed to May 2026 before this most recent announcement. Rockstar has emphasized that the extra time is necessary to meet the quality standards fans expect.

The game is the eighth main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series and the sixteenth overall. It takes place in the fictional state of Leonida, inspired by Florida, with the open world including Vice City, Grassrivers, and the Leonida Keys, paralleling Miami, the Everglades, and the Florida Keys, as well as Ambrosia, Mount Kalaga National Park, and Port Gellhorn.

The game satirizes modern American culture, including social media, influencer trends, contemporary policing methods like body cameras, and internet memes such as Florida Man.

Players will follow the story of Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a romantic criminal duo. Jason previously worked for local drugrunners after serving in the Army, while Lucia, the series’ first non-optional female protagonist, was imprisoned in Leonida Penitentiary for defending her family.

After a bank robbery goes wrong, they uncover a state-wide conspiracy and must protect each other. Other characters include Jason’s paranoid friend Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, a Vice City business owner, Dre’Quan Priest, owner of a record label, musical duo Bae-Luxe and Roxy, seasoned bank robber Raul Bautista, and Brian Heder, Jason’s landlord and longtime drug runner.

Grand Theft Auto VI was first confirmed in February 2022, following years of speculation. Later that year, unfinished footage leaked online, which journalists described as one of the biggest leaks in video game history. The game was officially revealed in December 2023 and will launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The delay may frustrate fans who have been eagerly anticipating the game, but Rockstar is focused on delivering a polished, high-quality experience. The open world, complex story, and cultural satire are expected to make GTA VI a standout entry in the series.
