Marvel Studios Confirms Sequel to Its Hit Special Presentation
Composer and director Michael Giacchino has shared some exciting news about the sequel to his 2023 MCU TV special, Werewolf by Night.
Speaking at Deadline’s Sound & Screen: Film event, Giacchino confirmed that he will be directing the follow-up. According to Deadline, he joked to the audience, “If you haven’t seen it, watch it. It’s on Disney+ if you still have that,” referencing past Disney+ boycotts.
The first Werewolf by Night was praised as one of the standout releases of MCU Phase 4. It received a 90% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and impressed fans with its unique approach. Giacchino not only directed but also composed the score, creating a black-and-white special presentation that paid tribute to classic horror films. The story starred Gael Garcia Bernal as Jack Russell, the titular werewolf, and Laura Donnelly as the monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone.
The ending of the special left fans with plenty of questions about what comes next. Elsa gains the mystical power of the Bloodstone, making her a significant force in the MCU’s supernatural side. Jack Russell still has some control over his beast form, suggesting he could also play a major heroic role. The special also introduced the Man-Thing, a character that has been teased in the MCU for years.
Until now, there has been little news about a sequel. Giacchino previously said in April that he wanted to return to the project, but Marvel was waiting for the film and TV industry to stabilize. With Marvel and Disney now limiting the number of yearly releases, the timing for the sequel seems to have finally come together.
Fans of Werewolf by Night can now look forward to seeing these characters and stories continue under Giacchino’s direction.
