Shōgun Season 2 Reveals Filming Date and Exciting New Cast Members
FX’s hit action-adventure series Shōgun is officially moving forward with its second season. Production is set to begin in January 2026 in Vancouver, and fans will see both returning faces and new cast members joining the story.
Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis are coming back as Lord Yoshii Toranaga and John Blackthorne.
Several actors from the first season will also return, including Fumi Nikaidô, Shinnosuke Abe, Hiroto Kanai, Yoriko Dôguchi, Tommy Bastow, Yuko Miyamoto, Eita Okuno, and Yuka Kouri. New additions to the cast include Asami Kizukawa, Masataka Kubota, Sho Kaneta, Takaaki Enoki, and Jun Kunimura.
Shōgun, based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel, tells the story of two men from very different worlds. Blackthorne is an English sailor stranded in Japan after a shipwreck, while Toranaga is a powerful daimyo navigating political conflicts. Their meeting creates a tense and complex dynamic that drives the story forward.
Fans of the first season will notice the absence of Lady Toda Mariko, played by Anna Sawai. Mariko, Toranaga’s trusted translator and Blackthorne’s ally, made a heroic sacrifice in the previous season and will not return for season 2.
The new season will jump ahead 10 years from the first season’s finale, continuing to follow the adventures and challenges of Blackthorne and Toranaga. Originally designed as a miniseries, Shōgun became a full series after its critical and commercial success. The show made history as the first Japanese series to win a Primetime Emmy, taking home Outstanding Drama Series at the 76th Emmy Awards in 2024.
Shōgun fans can look forward to more high-stakes action, political intrigue, and rich historical storytelling when filming begins next year.
