Fans are getting new insights into Avengers: Doomsday, especially about Magneto and the X-Men. In his most recent AMA industry insider Alex Perez said that when Magneto returns in the movie, he will finally have the mutant utopia he has always wanted.

“When it’s threatened, you know he’ll throw hands to protect it,” Perez explained.

Perez also addressed concerns about potential conflicts between the X-Men and the Avengers. He assured fans that while there might be consequences from their actions, “I don’t think any X-Men or Avengers will kill each other this time around, at least not intentionally. Maybe the consequences of their actions cause the deaths, but not something directly.”

Perez also briefly mentioned the upcoming phase in the MCU that will focus on X-Men primarily. The X-Men team in the future is going to be co-led by Cyclops and Jean Grey. Perez hinted that other familiar mutants such as Angel, Beast, Gambit, Rogue, and Nightcrawler could appear as part of the team.

Avengers: Doomsday features an enormous ensemble cast including Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr. In the film, the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the X-Men unite to face Doctor Doom, played by Downey.

The movie is part of Phase Six of the MCU and is scheduled to hit theaters in the United States on December 18, 2026. Its sequel, Secret Wars, is set to follow on December 17, 2027. Filming for Doomsday began in April at Pinewood Studios in England, with additional location shoots in England and Bahrain, and wrapped in September.

The film’s production saw several changes behind the scenes. Originally, Destin Daniel Cretton was hired to direct The Kang Dynasty, which was part of Phase Six, but he later left the project. Jonathan Majors, who was set to reprise his role as Kang the Conqueror, was also removed from the project.

Eventually, the Russo brothers returned as directors, with Eric Pearson and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely contributing to the writing. Downey’s Doctor Doom was introduced as the new central villain, leading to the film’s new subtitle, Doomsday.
