Pixar is bringing back the beloved toys for a new adventure with Toy Story 5. The animated film, produced for Walt Disney Pictures, is written and directed by Andrew Stanton and will be the fifth main installment in the Toy Story series. It is set to be released in U.S. theaters on June 19, 2026.

Fans can look forward to familiar voices returning. Tom Hanks will once again play Woody, Tim Allen will voice Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack will return as Jessie.

Other returning actors include Tony Hale as Forky, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog, and John Ratzenberger as Hamm. New additions to the cast include Anna Faris, Ernie Hudson, Conan O’Brien, and Greta Lee, who voices a frog-like toy named Lilypad.

The story follows Jessie taking the lead in Bonnie’s room after Woody left to help abandoned toys find new homes. Buzz remains her second-in-command, but Bonnie, now eight years old, has become fascinated with her new favorite toy, Lilypad. This sets the stage for a fresh adventure among the toys.

The idea for a fifth main Toy Story film has been around for several years. Tim Allen mentioned his interest back in February 2019, and although Tom Hanks had previously suggested that Toy Story 4 would be the last, development for a fifth film was officially confirmed in February 2023.

Stanton was announced as director in June 2024 and later confirmed as the writer. This will be the first main Toy Story movie without involvement from co-creator John Lasseter, who left Pixar in 2018.

Empire recently released a new look at Buzz Lightyear, giving fans an early glimpse of the updated design for the character. The teaser has already sparked excitement online and reminds audiences why the Toy Story series has remained so popular over the years.
