Tom Welling recently revealed which DC Universe character he would like to play. During an interview, when asked about it, Welling replied simply, “I mean, Batman.”

Fans think Welling could fit the role. His look is similar to the classic idea of Clark Kent, which many say resembles Bruce Wayne.

Some believe it could make sense for James Gunn to bring the Smallville star into the new DC Universe, though it’s unlikely he will actually play Batman. Still, seeing Welling in some role would be exciting.

In other news, a Smallville animated revival is reportedly in development, but there is no release date yet.

The DCU is preparing to introduce its version of Batman in an upcoming movie. The film will focus on the “Bat-Family” and will feature Bruce Wayne’s son, Damian Wayne, as Robin. James Gunn described the story as a “strange father and son story” between Batman and Robin.

After Gunn and Peter Safran joined DCU, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav confirmed that there will not be multiple Batmans in the new universe.

The upcoming movie, The Brave and the Bold, will present the DCU version of Batman, inspired by Grant Morrison’s 2006–2013 comics. Ben Affleck will not return as Batman in this universe, and Matt Reeves’s Batman will continue separately under the DC Elseworlds label.

Andy Muschietti, who directed The Flash, was originally hired to direct the new Batman film in June 2023. His sister, Barbara, will co-produce alongside Gunn and Safran. Development on the movie was delayed to avoid conflicts with Reeves’s The Batman: Part II and to give Muschietti time for other projects. By early February, a writer was working closely with Gunn on the script, although Muschietti was no longer actively involved at that time.
