Sonic Spinoff and New TMNT Live-Action Movie Set 2028 Release Dates – Here’s When To Expect Them
Paramount has announced big plans for its movie lineup over the next few years, including new films in the Sonic and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchises.
The studio confirmed that a new “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie will be released on November 17, 2028, while an untitled “Sonic Universe Event Film” is scheduled for December 22, 2028.
Details about both films are still being kept secret, but fans know that Neal H. Moritz, the producer behind the successful Sonic trilogy, will also be involved with the new Turtles movie.
The upcoming “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” film will be a family-friendly mix of live action and CG animation. It will mark the first live-action Turtles movie since 2016’s “Out of the Shadows,” which did not perform well at the box office.
Paramount has since found more success with animated entries, including 2023’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Its sequel, “Mutant Mayhem 2,” is already set to hit theaters on September 17, 2027.
The new Sonic film is separate from “Sonic the Hedgehog 4,” which is planned for March 19, 2027. The Sonic franchise has been extremely successful for Paramount, with the first three movies earning over $1 billion worldwide.
Paramount also announced plans to bring the original “Top Gun” back to theaters on May 13, 2026, to celebrate the film’s 40th anniversary. The 1986 movie, directed by Tony Scott and starring Tom Cruise, was the highest-grossing film of its year.
Cruise later returned for the 2022 sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick,” which became Paramount’s most successful movie ever, earning $1.49 billion globally.
Overall, these announcements show Paramount is focusing on its biggest franchises to attract audiences in the coming years. The Turtles and Sonic films will give families and fans of all ages something to look forward to, while the return of “Top Gun” offers a chance to celebrate a classic.
