‘Zootopia 2’ Already Surpasses ‘Superman’ Entire Box Office Run With a Record-BreakingTriumph
Zootopia 2 has already outperformed the total box office of Superman, proving to be a massive hit worldwide.
The animated sequel has now earned $617 million globally, just surpassing Superman’s total of $616.7 million. In North America, Zootopia 2 has made $170 million, while international audiences contributed $447 million.
Before its release, Deadline Hollywood had predicted that Zootopia 2 would make over $125 million in the U.S. and Canada during the five-day Thanksgiving weekend and $270 million worldwide.
The movie exceeded expectations, earning $158 million in North America and $560.3 million worldwide during its first weekend. This opening also set a record for animated films, marking the highest worldwide opening for an animated movie and the fourth-highest overall for any film.
The movie performed exceptionally well in China, making $271.6 million in its opening weekend. It became the first Hollywood film to earn more than $100 million in a single day, achieving this milestone on Saturday, November 29.
Critics are responding positively to Zootopia 2. On Rotten Tomatoes, 92% of reviews were favorable. The site said, “Cleverly laying a thoughtful message onto another crackerjack caper while solidifying Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as one of the most endearing buddy pairings in ages, Zootopia 2 more than justifies a return trip to the big city.” Metacritic gave the film a score of 73 out of 100 based on 39 critic reviews, indicating generally favorable opinions.
Audiences are enjoying the film as well. CinemaScore gave Zootopia 2 an average grade of “A,” matching the score of the original movie. PostTrak reported that 87% of viewers had a positive opinion of the film, and 65% said they would definitely recommend it.
Zootopia 2’s success shows the global appeal of animated films and the strength of well-loved characters like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.
