Netflix Confirms ‘Under Paris 2’ and Reveals First Look at the Sequel
Netflix has confirmed that a sequel to its hit shark movie Under Paris is officially in the works, and production has already started.
The update comes from reports by Variety, which revealed that Under Paris 2 is now filming in the south of France. The first movie became one of Netflix’s biggest non-English hits, pulling in over 100 million views after its release in 2024.
The sequel will move the story forward with a new setting and higher stakes. The plot takes place a few years after the events of the first film, where a shark outbreak in Paris caused chaos and major destruction. Now, parts of the city are flooded, and the danger is far from over.
The story follows returning characters Sophia and Adil as they reunite for a risky mission. They are trying to track down the original shark behind the attacks while dealing with new threats in the water.
There is also a change behind the camera. Alexandre Aja is now directing the sequel, taking over from Xavier Gens, who worked on the first movie. Gens is still involved as a writer and producer. Aja spoke about joining the project and said, “I love Paris, and I always wanted to make a shark movie, so it was an obvious yes when the opportunity came to take the story even deeper.”

Several cast members from the original film are returning, including Bérénice Bejo and Nassim Lyes, along with other familiar faces.
The first movie’s success surprised many, especially since it was reportedly passed on by some studios before Netflix picked it up. Now, with strong viewership numbers, the platform is expanding the story into a larger franchise.
While there is no exact release date yet, early information suggests the sequel could arrive sometime in 2027.
This makes sense for Netflix. The first film clearly found a big audience, and shark movies still attract attention worldwide. A sequel with bigger scale and a new director could push it even further. What do you think about Under Paris getting a sequel? Share your thoughts in the comments.
