New reports suggest that The Batman: Part II will take strong inspiration from one of the most loved Batman comic stories ever made.

Film insider Jeff Sneider is the source of the claim. He says the upcoming sequel is heavily influenced by Batman: The Long Halloween.

Sneider shared this information while discussing future DC projects, and his comments quickly spread among fans online.

The Long Halloween is a well-known Batman comic written by Jeph Loeb with art by Tim Sale. It was released in the late 1990s and focuses on Batman’s early years as a crime fighter. The story follows a long murder case tied to major holidays, with each killing happening on a different date throughout the year. Batman works closely with Jim Gordon and Harvey Dent as Gotham slowly changes from mob crime to masked villains.

The comic is also famous for showing Harvey Dent’s fall and the rise of Two-Face. Many fans consider it one of the darkest and smartest Batman stories. It has already influenced past films, including Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and Matt Reeves’ The Batman from 2022.

If the report is accurate, the sequel could dive deeper into Gotham’s corruption and explore how crime evolves after the city’s flooding at the end of the first movie. This lines up with what has already been said about the story direction. The film is expected to focus on another major investigation and the growing divide inside the city.

Matt Reeves is returning as director and co-writer, once again working with Mattson Tomlin. Robert Pattinson is set to return as Batman, alongside Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. Filming is planned to begin in 2026 in the UK, with locations including London and Glasgow. The movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.

The Long Halloween is often praised for its noir tone, slow mystery, and strong character work. Many critics and fans view it as a perfect match for Reeves’ grounded version of Batman. That makes this reported influence exciting for people who enjoyed the detective side of the first film.
