The upcoming limited series adaptation of East of Eden now has an official release window. Netflix has confirmed that the show will arrive in Fall, alongside a newly released poster.

The series is a seven-episode adaptation of John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel and is being developed as a major prestige drama for the streamer. It has been in production for several years, with filming taking place in New Zealand before moving into post-production.

The project is led by Zoe Kazan, who serves as writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner. Kazan has spoken about her personal connection to the material, especially since her family history is tied to the earlier film adaptation directed by her grandfather, Elia Kazan. She previously said, “In the process of bringing this family saga to life, the resonance of my own familial connection to the material has not been lost on me.”

This new version of East of Eden tells the story of the Trask family, but it shifts the focus in a different direction from earlier adaptations. Instead of treating the story as a broad family saga, the series places more attention on Cathy Ames, one of the most complex characters in the novel.

Cathy is played by Florence Pugh, who also serves as an executive producer on the project. The series explores her character in more depth and uses her perspective as a central point in the story.

The cast also includes Christopher Abbott as Adam Trask, Mike Faist as Charles Trask, Hoon Lee as Lee, Tracy Letts as Cyrus Trask, Martha Plimpton as Faye, Ciarán Hinds as Samuel Hamilton, Joseph Zada as Cal Trask, and Joe Anders as Aron Trask.

Behind the scenes, the series is co-produced by Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart, who also works as co-showrunner. The directing duties are split across the season, with Garth Davis handling the first four episodes and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre directing the final three.

Production on East of Eden has already wrapped, and the series is now in post-production as it prepares for its Fall 2026 debut. Netflix is expected to reveal more details, including a trailer and exact release date, closer to launch.

With its strong cast and high-profile creative team, the series is being positioned as one of Netflix’s major upcoming drama releases, continuing interest in Steinbeck’s classic story for a new generation.
