Lamarr Wilson, Popular Tech Influencer, Dies at 48 – Heartbreaking Cause of Death Confirmed

Tech influencer Lamarr Wilson has died at the age of 48. His family confirmed the news on December 13, calling the loss “heartbreaking.”

According to public records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, Wilson passed away at his home on November 21, and the cause of death was ruled as suicide.

Wilson built a large following online, gaining over a million followers on TikTok alone. He became widely known as the “unboxing guy” and shared insights not just on tech, but also gaming and entertainment.

His family reflected on his career in a Facebook post, saying, “It is with deep feelings of hurt pain that The Family of LaMarr Wilson would like to make this statement regarding our beloved Family member LaMarr Wilson passing and what he aspired to become with YouTube, Google and all his social media platforms he loved working with.”

Before moving to Los Angeles to advance his career, Wilson worked as a tech educator in Chicago and Milwaukee public schools, helping both staff and students improve their IT skills. His family added that he “created his opportunity to further his skills and career moving to Los Angeles, California and grew and expanded into the Tech Personality he later became.”

Wilson’s influence extended beyond social media. He was set to serve as a judge at the CES Innovation Awards on January 4, 2026, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Over the years, he collaborated with major brands like Google, Apple, Nintendo, and Xbox. He first launched his YouTube channel in 2008 and shifted to short-form vertical videos in 2021.

In 2013, he appeared on George Takei’s series Takei’s Take, and earlier this year he took part in a VidCon 2025 panel about cross-generational content. Sharing advice to his followers, Wilson wrote on Instagram, “Never be in competition or threatened by others as a creator. No one can do what you do the way YOU do it. It’s as simple as that. You’re in competition with yourself and your last piece of content.”

Fans and followers quickly shared condolences on his final social media posts. One wrote, “Rest in peace man you was always so energetic and entertaining,” while another said, “Rest In Peace beloved Lamarr Wilson. You have always cheered me up in a dark moment of my life. You shaped my childhood and you were such a funny and lovable human. I hope you’re resting easy in heaven my dear friend. We love you so much.”

Wilson’s family said he had many projects in progress and contracts with various tech and media companies. They expressed love for his management team and fans, noting how much he inspired others.
