The original manga, created by Naoya Matsumoto, launched in July 2020 on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ platform. It wrapped up in July with Chapter 129, compiled into 16 volumes. Viz Media publishes the English version and describes the story as follows:
“Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she’s out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There’s just one problem—he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.”

The announcement of the final arc anime marks a major milestone for the series. Fans can expect more high-stakes action, intense battles with kaiju, and deeper exploration of Kafka’s journey to join the Defense Force. The addition of the Gen Narumi short adds extra excitement, giving fans more content while they wait for the full release.
This final arc adaptation shows that Kaiju No. 8 has become a standout hit in modern shonen anime. It’s exciting to see the story get the full anime treatment, especially with Production I.G returning to deliver the same high-quality animation fans have come to expect.
