IO Interactive Delays ‘007 First Light,’ James Bond Installment Hits Unexpected Setback
IO Interactive has pushed back the release of its upcoming James Bond game, 007 First Light. The studio confirmed that the game will now launch on May 27, 2026, instead of its original March release window. The update comes directly from IO Interactive.
According to the developer, the delay is meant to give the team more time to improve the game. IO Interactive said the project is already complete in a technical sense, explaining that it is “fully playable from beginning to end.”
Still, the studio wants extra time to fine-tune the experience so it can ship in the best shape possible. The team added that the goal is to deliver “the strongest possible version at launch.” More updates are expected early next year.

007 First Light is a big release for fans of the franchise. It is the first James Bond video game in more than ten years.
The project is being handled by the same studio behind the Hitman series, which has raised expectations. Early looks at the game suggest a fast and intense style, with a strong focus on spy work and action. The story is brand new and pulls ideas from across Bond’s long history.
IO Interactive has also shared that this version of Bond is younger and less experienced. Narrative director Martin Emborg previously said the game focuses on Bond before he becomes the polished agent fans know. That approach lines up with the direction Amazon appears to be taking with future Bond films as well.
The cast is another major highlight. Patrick Gibson, known for The OA and Dexter: Original Sin, plays James Bond. Lenny Kravitz takes on the main villain role. Other actors in the game include Lennie James, Kiera Lester, Alastair Mackenzie, and Priyanga Burford.
