The first trailer for the upcoming action-comedy film, The Wrecking Crew, has just been released, giving fans their first look at Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista as two very different brothers working together.

The film, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto and written by Jonathan Tropper, follows half-brothers Jonny and James as they try to uncover the conspiracy behind their father’s murder in Hawaii.

Momoa plays Jonny, a reckless cop, while Bautista portrays James, a disciplined Navy SEAL. Together, they must overcome 20 years of bad blood to solve the mystery, blending action and humor along the way. The film also stars Claes Bang, Temuera Morrison, Jacob Batalon, Frankie Adams, Miyavi, Stephen Root, and Morena Baccarin.

According to sources, the project was initially sparked by an original idea from Tropper, Momoa, and Bautista. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer won a bidding war for the rights in 2021. Early plans had David Leitch attached to direct, with filming in Hawaii, but scheduling conflicts led to Ángel Manuel Soto joining the project in August 2023.

Casting continued through 2024, with Claes Bang, Temuera Morrison, Jacob Batalon, Frankie Adams, Miyavi, and Stephen Root confirmed in August, and Morena Baccarin, along with Lydia Peckham, Roimata Fox, and Branscombe Richmond, added in September. Tragically, the film will also mark the final role of David Hekili Kenui Bell, who passed away in June. Bell had previously appeared in the live-action Lilo & Stitch, which also featured Maia Kealoha, who appears in this film.

Filming began on October 5, 2024, taking place across locations in Hawaii and New Zealand. Bobby Krlic, who previously worked with Soto on Blue Beetle, composed the score for the film.

The Wrecking Crew is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on January 28. Fans can now get a glimpse of the action-packed story through the first trailer, which highlights intense fight scenes, comedic banter, and the rocky relationship between the two brothers.
