Fans Are Convinced Orlando Bloom Took a Shot at Katy Perry on the Red Carpet
Orlando Bloom made one of his rare public appearances at the 2026 Golden Globes on Sunday, January 11, and fans immediately noticed something in his comments that many think was a dig at former partner Katy Perry. Bloom, who hasn’t been seen in public often since their split, presented the award for Best Non-English Language Motion Picture alongside Minnie Driver and spoke with media outlets before going on stage.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bloom talked about his daughter Daisy’s Christmas wish list. He said she wanted a boyfriend and a cat, and added, That’s kind of nuts, right? But I was the boyfriend, so that’s the good news. Hallelujah! She’s gonna marry me, finally a woman I can trust!
Many fans immediately interpreted the phrase a woman I can trust as a possible reference to Katy Perry, who has started dating former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau since her split from Bloom. However, this interpretation may be reading too much into it. Bloom and Perry have remained friendly and focused on co-parenting their daughter.
In fact, they reunited as a family ahead of the holidays to take Daisy to see Paddington: The Musical on London’s West End. Bloom and Perry’s relationship has had a long history, spanning nearly a decade of high-profile moments. They first dated in early 2016 but separated in February 2017.
They reconciled in 2018 and got engaged on Valentine’s Day 2019. The couple announced their split in July 2025, saying in a joint statement, Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting. They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is—and always will be—raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.
Perry began dating Justin Trudeau later in 2025, confirming their relationship on Instagram on December 6. Despite the speculation about Bloom’s comment, sources close to the family say that he and Perry continue to have a cooperative and respectful relationship focused on raising Daisy.
Beyond the personal headlines, Bloom has been keeping a low profile while working on several gritty film projects.
Looking further ahead, rumors have intensified about his potential return to Middle-earth. While promoting his recent work, Bloom expressed his willingness to play Legolas again in the upcoming film The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which is currently in development for a late 2027 release. He told reporters that if director Peter Jackson calls, he would return to the role in a heartbeat, possibly using de-aging technology.
Bloom is also continuing his work with UNICEF, recently traveling to support humanitarian efforts in regions affected by climate change. His commitment to global advocacy remains a central part of his life outside of acting and fatherhood. Between his return to the awards circuit and his upcoming thriller roles, the actor seems to be entering a busy new chapter of his career.
Do you think Orlando’s comment was a subtle swipe at Katy’s high-profile new relationship, or was he just being a doting father making a joke about his daughter’s Christmas list? Share your thoughts in the comments.
